Welcome to SONIA Online - Sydney Pharmacy School

We aim to allocate students to their clinical placements approximately four weeks before the placement commences.

Over the course of Pharmacy Degree, each Pharmacy student:

 ·       Must attend at least one community pharmacy placement

·       Must attend at least one hospital pharmacy placement
 ·       Must attend placements in a minimum of two different geographical areas defined according to local health district (LHD) boundaries[1]

·       Must not attend more than one placement at the same placement site for a two-week block placement.

[1] Local health districts (LHDs) were established by NSW Health to operate public hospitals and institutions and provide health services to communities within geographical areas. The state of NSW is divided into 15 LHDs (8 covering the Sydney metropolitan area, and 7 covering rural and regional NSW). In the context of placement allocations, the LHDs are utilised to provide geographical diversity for student placement allocations.

Conflict of Interest

Please assess your clinical placement for any potential conflict of interest. There is a potential conflict of interest if your allocated site (at the facility level) is one:

  • where you have worked in paid employment, been on work experience or as a volunteer;
  • where your spouse or partner works;
  • where a close family member works;
  • where you, your partner/spouse or a close family member has a Director's role or financial interest.

If a placement presents a potential conflict of interest, please email us explaining the situation and we will refer this information to the Course Coordinator for assessment and advice. If a conflict of interest exists, we will contact you and arrange another placement.

Absence from placement

If you miss any of your clinical placements (even one hour) you must contact the Student Placement Officer ([email protected]) and your preceptor letting them know of your absence immediately.

You must submit a Special Consideration application to explain the absence (http://sydney.edu.au/current_students/special_consideration/apply.shtml). The result for the unit of study will remain RI (result incomplete) until the Special Consideration application is received and assessed. Special Consideration applications are assessed by the University's Student Administration Services and they will reply to you directly.

Are you currently verified for the duration of your placement?

Check your verification status under the 'Checks' tab and don't forget to double check your Criminal Record Check (CRC) expiry date.

More information about verification can be found here
